Description

The next time you get around a group of collectors talking original art, mention artist, Kreigh Collins and watch the room get silent. Although it was a common household name back in the fifties, Collins� �Kevin the Bold� is a relatively obscure strip to collectors these days. It was a Sunday strip that lasted from 1949 to 1968 when it�s creator/illustrator, Kreigh Collins suddenly changed course for the modern navigational storyline, �Up the Anchor.�

Collins worked on several hardback books before landing his first strip that eventually transformed into �Kevin the Bold.� Collins also painted plenty of covers for various outdoor men�s magazines to pay the bills over the years.

Upon his death in �74, his widow donated a large bulk of his personal collection � including his �Kevin the Bold� strips, to the Grand Michigan Library. Other than a small number of foreign comic specials, I don�t believe any of his strip were ever collected in one collection. In fact, there is very little information on the web about Kreigh Collins and his various work.

He was primarily known for his exquisite line work featuring horses or his lovely ladies. Collins was certainly one of the early masters of �good girl� art. Since this particuliar strip had seven horses and one of his gorgeous ladies, I knew it was a winner! Measuring a WHOPPING 20" by 25" (twice up) the detail is breathtaking! It makes me wonder just how many �Kevin the Bold� strips are floating around out there. If anyone has one, I would love to see it.

Great example. Less horses but more female on my Sunday from 1965 :-)
