Description(Obtained directly from the 'aaronlopresti.com' webshop, januari 2013)Comic art can look astute, intricately busy or detailed more rather, up to the point that it may seem hard to get how the image as a whole would still be holding up. In some cases pin-ups or especially cover pieces can really appear to contain some extra sense of gloss or 'gobsmack' in their own way. Like they'd have a certain special knack or aptitude to them. This piece I stumbled upon as in its original uncolored state for a first time. And it stuck with me, like some facehugger the image kinda sucked itself onto my faceplate, for no letting go. I'll be something of a facehug kind of guy I guess. At least I know I'll be liking most graphical stuff to being very 'in-the-face'. R.E.B.E.L.S. is a DC title hailing 'space mystery adventure' type of material, as made big by such names as Carmine Infantino, Gil Kane, Alex Toth and Frank Frazetta during the Silver Age. As of 2009 featuring a timely cast around the cosmically prodigal Captain Comet, the jetpacked space marshall Adam Strange, the galactical brainer Vril Dox; together with Lobo, bounty hunter of infamous rockstar caliber, such stellar heroines as Starfire and Wildstar; both as supervillains as notoriously funky as Starro the Conqueror. Not merely to tribute, but as something in its own right I'd feel, like for conveying 'straight-up comics thrill' onto a contemporary stage, seemingly with little difficulty. In this cover the super-genius Vril Dox finds himself like nothing, among a crowd of monsterous aliens, even one green pointy-eared female-oid. Obviously everybody's Starro-ed, mindslaved by way of an endless minion army of cycloptic starfish, locked-on in facehug mode, as to be answering to their amoebic droner suckulant headmastering starry overlord. I reckon' it to being quite the in-the-face 'space action mystery' allright. Plus I know that for this piece mr Lopresti went all out old-school for adding the cosmic constellations as in white on black by means of incorporating a thumb-flicked paint-dipped splatter-eager toothbrush of his into the picture! Could that be why this cover'd be seeming astute yet busy yet rich - in a way of itself? [ Dimensions: 15.90" x 10.75" or 40.4 cm x 27.3 cm ] Social/Sharing |
