DescriptionI had been wanting to get a piece by Mike Maihack for a while and when I saw he was taking character commissions I couldn't resist ordering one. I decided to have Mike do the old reliable Girl in Kimono. There were 2 options available. The ink or the pencils. Naturally I chose the inked because in my mind inks are always more finished then pencils. A few weeks after placing the order I received an email from Mike with a picture of the finished piece. When I opened the email there was excitement as I saw the digital image of the piece he had done. That was soon followed by disappointment as I read the email and found that the piece I commissioned was little more then a sketch and that the actual piece was 90% digital. Being an art collector I can appreciate digital art but love being able to actually hold the real art rather then just a print of it. My first reaction was to email Mike and express the disappointment. I thought maybe I should have ordered the pencil piece instead but in my mind the ink piece would be the more finished of the 2. Mike explained it was just his process to get the client a more finished piece by going the digital route. He then offered to do a pencil piece as well so I took him up on the offer. The pieces arrived today and I am very pleased with the piece. As Mike had described there was very little to the ink piece so I would definitely have been very disappointed in that regard. The pencil piece on the other hand is fantastic and was exactly what I was thinking the inked piece was going to be when I commissioned the piece. All in all everything worked out. I would highly recommend getting a piece from Mike. His art is just so fun to look at. The piece is fantastic. I absolutely love what Mike came up with. The girl is adorable and I love the background. A great piece. Size 9x12 Social/Sharing |

What a charming drawing! The fact that Mike did it in blue really enhances its appeal.
