Limited Edition #28 of 300 museum poster with original pen drawing by Frank Frazetta, circa 1986. Somewhere in 1985 or early 1986, my brother and I made our first of several pilgrimages to the original Frazetta museum, which was on the upper floor of a building in town the family owned. It was an unbelievable experience; the pieces were beautifully displayed in a spacious gallery room setting, and you could get right up to them to take in the detail. My only regret was that there were no pen and ink pieces in the gallery, but virtually all of the major works were there.

At the time, Ellie had just started offering an LE for visitors to the museum; you could sign up for a version of the poster with a blank area around the outside (I think the standard version was green), on which FF would do an original drawing of a cat or a girl for $700, or both for $1,400. The wait time was a couple of months, depending on other demands on their time. Frazetta commented that the smooth paper was tricky to work on, it didn't absorb the ink the way papers with more texture did.

Maybe a year into the project, FF developed thyroid problems, which took some time to diagnose correctly. During that period, the quality of the drawings started to suffer a bit, becoming looser and less detailed... somewhere along the way, I'm guessing maybe halfway into it, they stopped doing them altogether due to FF's health. Ellie also told us she's lost track of the list that had the numbering on it, and wasn't sure exactly how far they'd gotten. The poster itself is 18"x24" overall, and the area the drawing takes up is approximately 9"x3.5". The image shown is a closeup of the drawing only, the signed and numbered part is on the left side of the poster.
