DescriptionNever thought I’d own a Bama. While this isn’t the Doc Savage or Western/Cowboy image I thought I’d never own, it is a smartly-executed illustration from an April 1957 issue of a Male Magazine story titled “Murder for Madam.” And while the story of Bama’s painting is not-so-subtle, the details that create it - her expression, his response, the arch of her back and bend of her leg, the placement of her hands and the position of his jacket - certainly are subtle. I guess talent trumps genre. Thank you, Wally. Social/Sharing |

Outstanding Bama example! I really like the controled, but looser approach he took here compared with the tighter look of his later work. Great poses and expressions, and beautifully indications textures all around

And you forgot to mention the fingers. I love how two fingers are folded and only two are extended as she removes his jacket with her right hand. Also how he has only one finger extended on his left hand holding his hat. I very rarely use all my fingers to hold something that isn't heavy. And it's wonderful how this illustration captures that.

As you said, a refined, subtle and even provocative drawing! Elegant and beautiful!

Lovely illustration and interesting to see that you've displayed the whole artboard, "warts'n'all" (British expression) where I, personally, would have matted close to the image. Congrats!

Thanks for the comment, Terry. There's an argument to be made for "no warts" as well as "warts 'n all." I just like viewing the entire production, sort of a "behind the scenes" look.

Classic illustrsation! Feels like a still from one of those cool Film Noir movies of the '40s and '50s. Congrats!
