Description11.5" x 17"Ink over Blue Pencils The story goes like this... A few years ago just as a new year was about to begin, I was browsing the OfferUp app for my area and lo and behold this beauty was newly listed. I couldn't believe it. I quickly made arrangements to meet up with Steve, the seller. When we met he explained that he assisted Nathan Massengill, the inker, at a local con some years ago and at the end of the weekend was given this page as a "Thank You" for all his help. Nathan wrote at the bottom "To Steve!! An Original!! NAM" This splash went on to become the cover for the original City of Crime trade paperback published by DC. I bought this for an extremely reasonable price and I'll leave it at that. This is a deal I was lucky to be a part of and will probably never have another like it again. Many thanks to Steve who was willing to part with the page and let me be the new caretaker. Props to Nathan and his act of generosity all those years ago. Social/Sharing |

Now thats a Dark Knight! Just daring any criminal to get stupid enough to get caught. So awesome!

This cover uses multiple techniques of inking and they all do their jobs well. The rigid linework for the building, the billowing clouds and of course the Batman figure is full of lively anatomic linework! The overall effect is strong!

I enjoyed reading your description. That is an art collector's dream come true. Certainly not to cheat someone (which you did not do), but to get a great bargain (which you DID do).
What a beauty! I was surprised you had it listed as a page as it was really more of a cover. Apparently someone else felt that way as well when putting together the TPB.
Thanks for posting and sharing your story.
