DescriptionSo I was thinking about what I should post next, and I noticed a bunch of White Knight art being shared in the last week. I took that as a sign since I am in a little bit of a Sean Gordon Murphy phase right now. So, to keep things simple, I am going to post a new WK page every week for the rest of the year. It's now the year of White Knight!I wasn't quite sure where to start, so I figured I might as well start on a high note. Here is the cover for Beyond the White Knight #1. I love this cover, it's probably my favorite one from the WK trilogy. I watched a ton of Batman Beyond and Batman the animated series growing up, so this cover hits me right in the nostalgia. It prominently showcases Murphy's Batman and his popped collar, framed by the outstretched wings of Terry and his iconic Batsuit. The composition of this cover is great, and it features almost every character that matters in the story with the backsplash of the Blade Runner-esque cityscape. This cover was used for a bunch of promotional stuff, and there is a variant of it without the coloring. There apparently is an inkpulp video of Sean creating this cover if anyone is interesting in seeing how it was made. I got to SGM's run on Batman relatively late, but I think it easily holds up with Capullo's run as one of the best of the last decade. Social/Sharing |

Great cover and as an added bonus you can watch Sean work on this cover in multiple segments as part of the Shawn Crystal Inkpulp tutorial series

Absolutely stunning cover for Beyond the White Knight #1. Sean Murphy has developed a unique style and I love how he is able to balance multiple elements on a cover to tell a story. Great pick-up!

Thanks, Bill! Totally agree. I see you have the cover to Curse #1 which is also a fantastic example of Sean's style and strengths. I didn't get much exposure to manga so Sean's art really took me by surprise and got its hooks into me.

THE cover of the series (and yes I know it's not over yet, but man, it's just so good). I'd go so far as to say it's a top five cover from the entire WK universe. HUGE congrats.

Man there's so much going on on this cover but Sean really makes it work with such a strong composition- congrats on this cover and can't wait to see what other Batman pages you picked up!

Thanks, Evan! Yep, Sean really knows how to put all of these elements together without it looking like a jumbled mess. Not everyone can pull it off.
