Description

Absolutely stunning title splash artwork for World's Finest Comics (DC, 1980), by the late, great Don Newton (pencils) and Dave Hunt (inks). Herein, the beautifully powerful Mary Marvel sours into the fray to thwart a heist of the Sandy Estate for the story entitled, "The Case of the Runaway Sculpture," written by Edward Nelson Bridwell. Lovely full figure action shot of Mary by Newton is beautifully complemented by a nice close-up of Captain Marvel, who introduces his sister's tale. The deep, pitch black background rendered for the night sky (complete with a full moon) provides for a very stark contrast, which makes the artwork really stand out impressively.

Great dollar comics era with all new stuff! It gave a platform for these great talents to go all out putting full story effort into the 8 pagers. Newton's art is quite beautiful here for Mary Marvel to take the spotlight! Stopping art theft is definitely a worthy cause!
