DescriptionPainted covers was one of the insignia of Gold Key comics and George Wilson painted many of them. Still he's almost completely unknown. The Gold Key issue of Comic Book Artist had an article about this fantastic artist. Btw, this cover was painted before it was realised that Magnus' boots were miscolored white inside the comic. This image was scanned in two parts.Social/Sharing |

Wilson was Gold Key's strongest assett. His range of painted covers was fantastic and I'm the proud owner of one myself. Your painting is a classic example from a classic title, congrats!

How did we let Wilson slip away with only a single interview? We should all be ashamed. He was a master. It is an honor just to see this original piece in all its glory. These pieces seem to be vastly undervalued to me based on what Heritage auctions shows. This baby is priceless in my opinion.

WOW, just amazing!!! George Wilson was one of most under-appreciated artists of all time, unfortunately the fate of many illustrators who spent much of their career at Dell. Adding an original Wilon cover to my collection is definitely goal of mine. Congrats on this grail!

Wow. Not only a stunning cover, but the trivia that comes with it makes it all the more interesting. How many published covers since then? Off the top of my head, a wild guess, around 30,000? Anyone have a idea how many?
