DescriptionThanks to Glen Gold for this page. Here isGlen's detailed history of the page. What we have here is page 2 to Warlock 15, the last issue of Starlin's original series. Courtesy of David Schwartz, I now know a little bit of its history. This page was penciled, inked and scripted by Starlin, and I suspect that had he a staple gun in his basement, he would have printed the issue himself, too. He was on a roll. This was the issue where Warlock can't go home to Earth, as his atoms have drifted apart, making him a phantom. Talk about alienation. In this page, he muses about not being able to go to Counter Earth because of his new dimension. Buuuut it wasn't always that way. The dialogue balloons in the last two tiers are all whited out and there is new dialogue in them. The original monologue by Warlock reveals where Jim actually wanted to take the series: Counter Earth isn't just inaccessible, it's been destroyed. And on this page, Warlock discovers its remains and mourns the death of his friends (including the "good" Doctor Doom). It looks like someone wasn't happy that that direction, and Starlin had to change everything. Wow. I remember as a kid reading that Warlock knew, before his death, that he'd be responsible for the deaths of everyone he ever loved, including the High Evolutionary. And that didn't happen before his suicide. I always wondered about that hole in the plot. Here's the answer. Social/Sharing |

Finding a gem like this from Starlin's peak period is really something special. Thanks for sharing the page and the history.
