Description

This piece took a long strange journey before ending up with me. Jim Balent is an old friend and drew this pin-up for a charity auction to benefit breast cancer research back in 1993 right as he was starting his 77-issue run on Catwoman. He used to send me photocopies of the stuff he was working on and I distinctly remember this piece. Apparently the original was purchased from the auction and given to well known local comic store owner Bill Liebowitz as a gift. For 10 years it hung in the back room of Golden AppleComics unknown to me despite regular visits to the store. In 2004, Bill passed away and his son Ryan took over operation of the store. I ended up helping him sell some of the art his dad had collected over the years, and was surprised to see this pin-up among the pieces. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it and it's been with me ever since.
The piece was originally presented in a box frame with an actual silicone breast prosthetic afixed to the left side. Unfortunately over time the weight caused it to detach and fall to the bottom of the box frame- taking some of the illustration board surface with it. The upside is that it made me finally crack open the frame to make a good scan.
