Description

Here is the original ink drawing made by Dave for the cover of this Sandman related mini-series : Dead Boy Detectives, issue 1, in 2001. It was also re-used as the cover for the TPB, published in 2008 (and partially reproduced in the Squink anthology).
Those two characters were created by Neil Gaiman in Sandman 25, in the Season of Mists storyline.
I asked Dave about the discrepancies between the actual drawing, and the printed version. He told me that the ladder and torchlight were added later, being asked by the editor.
One fine example of Dave's craftsmanship on ink drawings...

Those boys, they were brilliant charachters, really. Not scared by death - AT ALL! You can hardly beat a cover with them by McKean - great piece with great subjects.
