The spirit of the original Supergirl, Kara Zor-El resided in Linda Danvers. To save Lina's life, the Matrix Supergirl sacrificed herself by merging with her to form a new Supergirl. This new Supergirl series ran from issue 1 (September 1996) to issue 80 ( May 2003). In the final series arc, Kara Zor-El from a parallel universe arrives on earth to join the existing Supergirl. This series garnered great interest from fans but the book was prematurely cancelled. The series was thus ended with Kara returning to her universe to die in her Crisis while Linda gave up the mantle of Supergirl.
Iit is presumed that Linda did not survive the events of Infinite Crisis.
