Christel of Copenhagen - Litographs

Christel Marott (1919-1992) - also known as Christel of Copenhagen - was only seventeen when she made her debut as a self-conscious illustrator of weekly magazines, and throughout her life she carried on drawing illustrations for weeklies and fashion magazines. She signed her work Christel, and it became synonymous with alluring girls with long legs and a characteristic, vibrant sensuality. She studied at the academy of art in the city and went on to create a series of unique sculptures in ceramics. Christel created figurines of the twelve astrological signs of the Zodiac, supremely capturing the special characteristics of each one. Twelve girls appear in Christel’s own inimitable and sensual style, lovingly combining innocence and decadence. The signs of the Zodiac were made in Rome where, towards the end of her artistic career, Christel became more and more interested in sculptural work. The twelve signs of the Zodiac were completed by Royal Copenhagen in 2002-2003, in close collaboration with Christel’s daughter, Stine Marott. Stine Marott passed away a few years ago, leaving Christel's original art and heritage to her son - Christoffer Marott. In 2011 he has comissioned Peter Hartung and Gallery Comicart.dk in Hillerod, Denmark, to produce a series of original, numbered high quality litographs from the original art by Christel. Each print will be published in a strictly limited edition of 100 copies plus 5 EA prints. Each print comes with a COA. The litographs are printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching 310 grams paper.
