Work with Barry Windsor-Smith
My top 2 favorite artists were Jack Kirby and Barry Windsor-Smith ever since I was a kid. I started collecting Conan with the 2nd issue and still remember buying that very book. I got FF #100 the same day at the drug store. Came home and my dad was building me a tree house... It's funny the things that stay with you over the years. I met Jack, Barry and about all of my favorite comic artists when I was 13 at a NYC con my parents (God bless 'em) took me to. In the early 90's, I was thrilled Barry was returning to comics with Archer and Armstrong! It became my favorite comic (when Jack retired, whatever Barry was doing usually was) and before I knew it, I was inking it! After graduating from The Joe Kubert School I got my start assisting Joe Sinnott and then Dan Panosian, both of whom I'll always be grateful to. But it was on Eternal Warrior #7 that I got my first inking credit and I'll always thank Barry for that! There's nothing cooler than inking one of your all time favorite artists! We did 250 pages together, primarily on Rune. I relocated to NY state and saw Barry most every day at his studio. Getting to see, in person, how happy he was with what I had done over his pencils on each page was a most rewarding experience! I wanted us to be the best art team in comics, and I still believe when we worked together we were.
