Zippy the Pinhead
Bill Griffith is the platypus of the comic art world. He broke into the underground comix scene in 1970, working with icons like Spain Rodriguez, Art Spiegelman, and Robert Crumb. He notably skewered the romance comic genre with his smutty "Young Lust" title. As his style (and characters) matured, Bill transitioned from full stories to daily cartoons. Zippy was picked up by Hearst Publishing in 1987, and has in steady publication ever since. Unlike most working cartoonists, he accepts no editorial suggestions, keeping to his radical roots. Simultaneously insane, inane, and insightful, no one's work is like Bill's. The "straightest" underground artist there ever was.
