Charest is the textbook example of the pupil surpassing the master. Regarded by many as a "Jim Lee Clone", Charest drew inpiration in his early work from Jim Lee's work on X-Men. He began to come into his own on WildStorm's WildCats and went on to produce some of his best work on X-Men / Wildcats: The Golden Age. By Wildcats volume 2, it was clear Charest was a creative force to be reckoned with.
