I remember seeing Jack Kirby at the SDC's from the early 1980s on. Jack was acknowledged as the greatest artist in comics over the second half of the 20th century, yet on the floor of a convention center he showed no ego. He would gladly shake hands with fans, look at art portfolios of wishful comic book artists, give a fellow comic pro a compliment, and graciously receive compliments. When I see Jim Lee at conventions he kind of reminds me of Jack. Signings, sketches, photographs, panels, interviews, and company meetings are all pull for Jim's time at a convention. It is enough to drive the best of us crazy. Somehow Jim is always cool and tries to accommodate everyone with a smile.
