Many of us have been fascinated with the late and great Wally Wood - with his undoubted genius in general and (especially) his redoubtable inking in particular which overwhelmed the pencils of most artists, even great ones at that). He left us tragically - and at a relatively young age. These preliminaries are from the very first issue of Daredevil which he drew and Wood's name was (unusual for those times and even now as well) trumpeted by Stan Lee on the cover of the actual issue itself. I did not grow up with his EC work. I did not even know who he was when I picked up my first issue of Daredevil. It turned out to be his penultimate issue (#10). Only later did I realize why I was so drawn to his work on an intuitive level - even at a very young age. Not surprisingly, therefore, I am glad to be the latest steward of these very historical drawings and my grateful thanks to Bill Pearson for furnishing me with the opportunity to obtain them. I was also fortunate enough to acquire an original page from that issue itself and am also posting it in this gallery. There is another set of preliminaries for Daredevil #9 in a separate gallery. Please feel free to check them out if you would like.
