COMIC ART (SUPERHEROES) - PHOENIX (JEAN GREY)

Jean Grey and the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix have become a legendary part of the Marvel Universe Saga. Originally introduced in X-Men #1 in 1963, Jean was originally known as Marvel Girl, a core member of the initial X-Men team. Following the introduction of the New X-Men in the mid-70s, Jean was transformed into the powerful entity known as the Phoenix in 1976's X-Men #101. Eventually, the Phoenix power corrupted her and she became Dark Phoenix, a planet-destroying force of evil. Jean famously killed herself in X-Men #137 to stop herself from causing any more damage. In 1986, Jean Grey would return and it would be revealed that the Phoenix force was a separate entity. She would go on to marry long-term love Cyclops and rejoin the X-Men during the 90s and early 2000s. In 2004 during Grant Morrison's tenure on New X-Men, Jean once again controlled the Phoenix force and was once again killed. Jean finally returned from her second "death" in 2018 and began to head-up her own team of X-Men in the title X-Men Red.
