WW2 Era

Following a period of economic crisis around the world, the global political landscape reverberated. Call it an Exodus Inward, as nationalism and populism bloomed. The US shifted towards a navel-gazing isolationism combined with a build-up of prejudice against its most recent immigrants, incarcerating some and passing laws to exclude the scapegoated “other” from the country. The perceived threat from a growing voting block that was unlike the historical support that put the leaders in power was continuously damped down by a steady drumbeat of disenfranchisement strategies to keep the polls leaning in their favor. Around the world, a rising class of autocrats began to emulate one another, forming alliances of power even as they flexed their muscles with irresponsible and immoral abandon. Formerly isolated, the rising power in Asia pushed for its recognition and seat at the table, looking to expand its influence through its part of the continent. Russia, fresh off a huge shift in its own political fortune, was rebuilding fast, and was not afraid to play both sides of the fence to do so. Great Britain, so hugely important in its world leadership, found itself increasingly isolated from its historical allies. But enough about the current events of the early 21st Century, this is a section devoted to the WW2 era, after all, and things were obviously so different then than they are today.
