In the ’80s, when DC and Marvel were publishing one classic after another, Eclipse Comics was keeping up with them. Their titles included Sabre, Alien Worlds, Miracleman, Zot, The Hobbit, a Rocketeer issue, and many other fondly remembered titles. One of my favorites was Mark Evanier and Will Meugniot’s The DNAgents. It was a super team soap opera in the vein of the X-Men or the Teen Titans (an analogue of which guest starred in one issue). The five artificial young people were created by the Matrix Corporation to be industrial spies, but were too human and independent to make good tools. But they made great heroes! Meugniot’s art was sexy, fun, and dynamic, but didn’t forget to tell the story. I hope you enjoy these examples!
