I first fell in love with Juan's Green Arrow pages because of 2 distinct reasons: 1. The watercolors he adds to his pencils, making the pages look almost sufficient to print 2. He's one of the few artists who grasped how a bow and arrow are used correctly I contacted Juan and asked him about his process. Here's his reply: "I work differently every time. most of the Green Arrow pages had pencils and watercolors, those were to give mostly texture. then I finished the pages digitally. that allows me to do pages faster. I ink it. color it, scan it. send it to my Dad, he does the flat colors and then I finish it on Photoshop using a wacom cintiq mobile studio. at Marvel I did most pages with inks (not pencils) watercolors and digital. then on Spider-Man noir and Thunderbolts the same but I worked over grey paper and digital . on Hulk, mostly gouache, watercolors on brown paper (almost no digital) , nick Fury will be inks and digital." I was thrilled he answered my questions, and triple-thrilled to own some of his gorgeous pages!
