Heroes Redrawn: The 12 Labors of Hercules
In 1967, Charlton Comics published a limited series chronicling the legendary 12 labors of Hercules. All 12 issues of the story were drawn by Sam Glanzman. I never knew about this comic until a few months ago when I stumbled upon it while looking through some online comics. I peeked at the first few pages and was hooked. It seemed like the comic book version of some great Cecil B. DeMille epic, and as I read it I couldn't help but wonder: How would this comic look if it were being drawn today?. Well, you know what that means.
So I decided to take the 12 labors and assign them to 12 different artists -- one "labor" per artist -- to see their take on Charlton's Olympian. Now, don't get me wrong -- Marvel's version of Hercules is and always will be my favorite version of the character. No one can take the place of the one, true Prince of Power. But as far as Herculeses go, Charlton's ain't bad. In fact, he kinda grew on me, which is why you'll not only see him in this big project, but also in the End of Days crossover saga. He'll be with the Charlton super-heroes you didn't know existed.
