Phil Hale

I met Phil Hale in the late 1970s, when he was just a young teenager, at a comic book convention in Boston. We both happened to be poring over some Wrightson original art at a dealer booth, and got to talking. That led to a friendship that lasted years. Through Phil I met Rick Berry and Frank M. Robinson. I used to visit Rick, Phil and Tom Canty's studio at Avenue Victor Hugo Bookstore in Boston. Phil and I corresponded and visited during the late 70s and early 80s. It was clear even then that he had remarkable talent and intellect, as well as being a really nice guy. He would send me illustrated notes, and even a few sketches, drawings and paintings, a few of which I am posting here.
