I don't think Tailspin Tommy gets enough appreciation other than by my friend Bruce H. I got several dozen of these dailies back when I first started collecting almost 25 years ago. They have been with me through my journey and discovery of art and my opinion of them have changed several times. They were always cool and fun but initially I liked them for themes and quickly discovered the ones ghosted by Reynold Brown were drawn "better". The ones drawn by Hal were looser and the figures less anatomical. As I have grown to appreciate stylized skill and competence over realism, I have come around and actually prefer the early ones more. There is a nativity to the art that reminds me of Calkins's early Buck Rogers and the looser pencils is something seen in several artists of this era. I think there is a real charm to these pieces and thought I'd showcase the ones I have left in a CAF gallery. I have never owned a Sunday. These dailies are larger than most dailies at 29 inches wide.
