Complete 6-page story from Warfront #4 ( Harvey, 1952 ). A raw, young replacement finds his courage when he comes under fire in the Libyan desert. Rudolph Palais´ expressive brushwork is perfect for this war story, with a lot of knotted hands and sweating as could be expected. The ending is a little vague. Did Big Mike die? In that case the bullet killed him, and no water bottle in the world could have saved him. Writing, and not art, is probably what distinguished Kurtzman´s EC War comics from the rest. Rudy Palais would definitely have been at home in Two-Fisted Tales. The pages have an image area of 12" x 18".
