Creepy-Kenneth Smith
This was one of my initial grails. Who does not want the cover and/or interior from that very first printed comic or magazine that you purchased or had access to. Usually, regardless of the market value of said piece, it always seems to be worth MUCH more to you! Trouble is, I knew where this piece existed for nearly 30 years. The long time owner was not a lover of these things---but he was a lover of money. I'm ok with paying up. Hell, in my gallery, I think I wrote the book in this particular field (involving monster magazines, that is). I was (way) overpaying before it was fashionable to do so! Anyway, this seller knew I wanted it. Everyone has the level where it just means---well, I guess I'll never have it...until, by luck, said owner was leaving the business and sold the balance of his monster magazine covers (many beautiful Vampi covers that I wish I had!) to a collecting friend of mine. This buyer knew I was the guy to ask about these things, so asked my opinion on where these paintings should be priced. I gave him my honest figure, and in return, he sold me this Creepy 41 cover and my favorite Prezio Eerie cover---so I guess it was meant to be mine! Funny thing is I got the full Corben story that goes with this cover twenty years ago! But the cover was what I "needed". Thanks so much Eric for your kindness and generosity....
