Of all of the various "ghetto libretto" titles published during Editorial Mango/Toukan's heyday, Pistolero was one that seemed to have aspired to something more serious and respectable. Whereas many of the historietas were published weekly and featured stand-alone anthology style stories in each issue, Pistolero was published on a less frequent basis, and was based around a single cast of characters with stories that typically spanned several issues. Having said that, the comics were still filled with all the sex and violence that the genre is known for. I am not sure how much of hand artist Rafael Gallur had in the creation of the series, but he featured prominently in the earliest issues, often doing both covers and interior pencils.
