Whatever else one may say about Infinite Crisis, the work from the artist who has true claim to being classed as George Perez's stylistic successor, Phil Jimenez, was rarely less than awesome, and a respectful nod to Andy Lanning whose delicate inks manage to NOT obscure Jimenez's legendary detail work.
Actual pages being a little beyond my means I was lucky enough to find these insert pages on e-Bay.
In the old days background images could be doodled because they might never be truly noticed, but in this case, computer imaging allowed fully pencilled and inked pieces to be scanned in, shrunk and manipulated.
Check out the detail work on these pages and then remember that, though done on full sized comic board, they rarely occupied more than a couple of square centimetres. It takes someone of Phil's devotion to detail work to make that work as well as it did.
And if nothing else, imagine what it would have cost to commission Phil to even pencil this many faces, never mind all those, a great Batman shot and a terrific Nightwing action pose!
