Paul Mavrides
Here's the ageless classic "Care Dog Meets Pee Bear" by Ivan Stang and Paul Mavrides. I think this story was first published in 1986 by Rip Off Press in Bob's Favorite Comics: The SubGenius Comic Book, No. 1.
At one point in the 1990s, I attended an event at the Words and Pictures Museum (in Northampton, MA) where Mark Bode performed his "Cartoon Concert." Mark projected Care Dog Meets Pee Bear panel by panel onto a wall, while doing a dramatic reading of the captions and dialogue.
This high culture event divided the audience. Some... many... were aghast. Some chuckled a bit, but became more shocked and disturbed as the story went on. A few laughed. Having never read the story, and having no idea what was coming next, I was crying with laughter as Mark recited the progressively more nihilistic tale to it's contumacious conclusion. Of course, being a bit unhinged, part of the hilarity for me was how some of the audience were gasping and becoming progressively more uncomfortable throughout.
Some years later, quite by accident, I was at the right time and place to purchase the original artwork, which I scanned and uploaded to CAF some additional years later.
Although I think the story is the most awe-inspiring fresco in my Nihilistine Chapel, very, very few people ever bothered to check it out (at least where it resides in my CAF gallery), until it was linked to here:
