Batman Adventures pages by PAROBECK, BURCHETT, et al

      Batman: the Animated Series and it’s offshoots led to a series of DC comic books by Kelley Puckett, Ty Templeton, Rick Burchett, Mike Parobeck, and others: Batman Adventures, Batman & Robin Adventures, Batman Adventures: the Lost Years, Batman Gotham Adventures, Superman Adventures, annuals and special issues. These were the only superhero comics I was buying in the 1990’s.

      Mike Parobeck drew Batman Adventures for some 26 issues before a premature passing due to diabetes. I loved his work, but never got to meet him. My friend Eric gave me a sequence from the Batman Adventures Annual which was a comic book sequel to the Mask of the Phantasm feature film. I was able to purchase some uninked pencil illustrations from Mike’s art agent Spencer Beck. In July 2015, I picked up an action-filled three page sequence featuring Barbara Gordon.       Rick Burchett had the longest involvement with the animated style comic books. He was inker over all pencils artists of Batman Adventures. Rick did all the art on a few issues of Batman & Robin Adventures. On Batman Gotham Adventures, he was drawing pencils for the early issues. My friend Eric and I met Rick at SDCC in 1998. We got some books signed, got a sketch, and bought some pages.

      Terry Beatty had a long run doing inks for these books starting with the later issues of Batman & Robin Adventures through Batman Gotham Adventures. Terry was on comicart-l for a time and offered commissions through the mail from time to time. My first was a Batgirl and Supergirl. My second was Zatanna.

      Joe Staton worked on the later series. As a guest at WonderCon, he expressed his appreciation for the Bruce Timm animated style art for keeping him in comics books. My friend Eric and I sought him out for sketches. Joe did a wonderful job on my Batgirl request so I asked for a Harley & Ivy, too.

      Ty Templeton drew pencils on the first Batman Adventures issues and contributed over various series. Ty was a guest at San Francisco Comic Con in Oakland, his first trip to the West coast in 25 years. On Friday, I asked for Batgirl and Supergirl and Ty finished up Saturday. Some 15 years ago, I bought this Batman Adventures (volume 2) #3 page 5 with Harley & Ivy from inker Terry Beatty. I brought it for Ty's autograph and he declared it one of his favorite pages. If the split had gone his way, then he'd have kept the page.
