Alan Moore changed comics for the better. It all started with his fantastic stories in the pages of Saga of the Swamp Thing. Moore showed that mainstream comics could be much more complex, more inventive, and provide more mature story-telling than we had previously seen in newstand comics. The Swamp Thing run by Moore - Bissette - Totleben still stands up as some of the best graphic narrative story-telling of all time. The gorgeous artwork by his collaborators, Stephen Bissette and John Totleben, blew us all away. Totleben's feathery inking contained such intricacy and so many new techniques that much could not be reproduced in the pulp format in which the stories were published. None-the-less, what was printed was one of the best combinations of story and art ever created in the medium.
