Daredevil - My best of...

My first and favorite comic hero. My first 2 comics when I started collecting comics were Daredevil #200 and Alpha Flight #1. I probably couldn't have picked a better time to start collecting and although AF is still around, my interest in those character has long since wained. DD still has my admiration. The whole idea of super powers and mutants never sat well with me. I tried and tried to force myself to like superhero comics but eventually gave up. I never thought of DD as having any super powers except his special radar like vision and so he was a character I could handle. Daredevil has always been about Matt Murdock to me and his relationships. A few of the fight sequences I have also are pretty neat and so they have made the cut. I own a fair bit of DD art, here is my best! I tried to include images that are not in other galleries so check out my Romita gallery for all the cool JRjr DD artwork. It has taken me a long time to try and understand my relationship with the character Daredevil. I think it boils down to me being an eternal optimist and romantic. No matter how many times Daredevil/Matt Murdoch is knocked down, denegrated, deconstructed, defamed, dejected... destroyed-- he always get back up again. He is always searching for a happiness that he never seems to achieve but he doesn't give up trying. Perhaps he is the human spirit personified in comics. What keeps me coming back all these years is the hope of seeing Matt finally happy. He deserves it. I know it will never happen or if it does, it will only be short lived and he will be taken back to some depth to have to crawl back out of yet again. I think it is the happy moments I read the series for. Moments like this, where he seems happy with someone but knowing what a train wreck lies ahead is why I collect and read Daredevil. It is the same every time I see or watch Romeo and Juliet... I know how it ends but I always hope that they find happiness. One day I hope to see Matt Murdock, old, retired and happy with a family and grandkids but I don't think it is meant to be.
