Q&A with Brian Boggs

Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

The Monster Men by Berni Wrightson was the art I chose for my flyer when I use to set up at comic book shows in the Detroit area in the early 80's. So it's my grail.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Enjoy comics, all things horror...especially the Universal Monsters, non-sport cards, golf (played St. Andrews) and fantasy football.

How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

Gave away all my comics, cards and GI Joe stuff when I became too old for them at age 12 in 1968. LOL. Berni Wrightson's Swamp Thing, along with Kaluta's Shadow and BWS Conan restarted me on a lifelong very welcome addiction. So in 1985 I traveled from Detroit to Chicago for the Comic Con, met Berni and bought my first piece of original art Revoltin' Rhymes page 2 Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater.

How do you display/store your collection at home?

On my comic room wall framed.

What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

Mike Kaluta Shadow page. Barry Smith Conan page. Another Wrightson page, preferably from the Warren run.

The Monster Men
I started in this hobby back in 1979 and one of the first things I did was create a cheapo flyer and hand it out to everyone and anyone. The image for the flyer was Berni Wrightson's Monstermen from the 1974 Edgar Rice Burroughs portfolio. And now I have the original art to go with my old flyer. My grail...'nuff said!
