Q&A with Robert (Dr Bob) Reilly
| Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
| A: | Probably Moon Knight 29 but the cover to MD #1 would be a close second. At a comics show I approached Bill and asked him to sign a copy of the Moon Knight #29 comic book. I told him that it was my favorite Marvel cover but that I had heard he had sold it years ago. He replied that he had sold everything from his Moon Knight run except for one piece that was still hanging in his living room and that was the Moon Knight 29 cover. We agreed on a price that day and I picked up the cover from him a couple of weeks later. |
| Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
| A: | I am a physician thus the theme of collecting medical comic art but I grew up collecting Spider-man comics. |
| Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
| A: | I started collecting original art in 1993 when I bought my first piece of art from Joe Phillips at the SDCC. It was a painting from a DC Comic called the Death Gallery. As I looked at the pages artists were selling at what was my first SDCC I was amazed at how much better the art looked than the finished product in the comic. I also thought that since there was only one original that it might be more collectable than comic books. |
| Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
| A: | Some things are framed but in general I have adopted one of Tim Townsend's rules of original art collecting, which is that the more money you spend on frames the less money you have to buy art so most of it is in binders, |
| Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
| A: | Unfortunately the pieces I would love to own are way out of my current price range which would be the other three MD covers and a Howard the Duck cover with Dr. Bong on it. |
