This piece has just become a bit more historic It is published in the 25th anniversary edition of Arkham Asylum Where Dave confirms that this is his first Arkham Asylum piece and that it was published before Arkham Asylum was released! It's always difficult to photograph an object behind glass
All the art is visible and I have framed the piece slightly floating above the background, all acid free materials and UV filtering glass
For me this is a dream come true.
I have finally got my Mckean Joker piece.
There are many good Joker pieces out there by many great artists, but for me Dave's Joker is the only Joker that shows his absolute and complete lunacy
Ever since I discovered that this beautiful Joker piece existed I knew this was the piece I wanted, simply because I think this is by far the best Joker piece. All Joker, the way Mckean does it best.
This was made for the charity auction for the 1988 UKCAC (Brittish comic book convention, for those of you that are unfamiliar with this) .
This piece caused quite a stir during that convention because it realized a record sale price in the history of the UKCAC charity auctions.
Two London based comicshop owners ended up bidding against each other. It measures 29 ½ x 21 ½ inches and is done in inks, pencils acrylics and collage. Dave made the poker cards himself.
Very few people outside the UK knew that this piece even existed, until now.
