Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
A: | Without a doubt my favorite piece in my gallery, or anyone's gallery for that matter, is The Amazing Spider-Man: Hooky graphic novel wraparound cover by Bernie Wrightson. As to why... the tldr; version goes like this... entrigued by the full page ads of the front half of the cover plastered in issue after issue I collected leading up to its release, I was devastated to learn my local comic shop had not set one aside for me (it being an Amazing Spider-Man book, I had wrongfully assumed it would be set aside since my hold box included The Amazing Spider-Man), or even ordered a copy. My mother, having learned of my dismay, pulled my brother and I out of school, and we played "Hooky." She drove us 2 hours round trip to a comic shop that did have my coveted Hooky graphic novel. For a much more detailed explanation, you can read my description included in my posting of the piece here on CAF, and you can find the even lengthier explanation here. |
Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
A: | Not much to tell really. |
Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
A: | In July of 2004, I was seeking out a complete set (at the time) of Strangers in Paradise, after finally succumbing to two well respected friend's repeated recommendations to start reading Terry Moore's SIP series, and came across my Byrne Kitty Pryde conceptual art on E-Bay, and thus a new addiction was born! |
Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
A: | I frame the majority of it, and try to only buy pieces that I deem worthy of wall space. Since 2010, when I acquired my Grail Hooky Wrightson wraparound cover, all of my newly framed pieces have been framed by Steve Wyatt!, framer extraordinaire! Thanks Steve! |
Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
A: | 1. I would really like a nice Charles Vess Spider-Man piece. My first Amazing Spider-Man book was #277, which was graced with a Vess cover and story, and I have always enjoyed the elegance that he brought to the character. Ideally I would like to eventually add both a painted, and pen and ink version. 2. Probably priced out of the market; but I'd like a Todd McFarlane Spidey. He revolutionized the depiction of the character, and did so right in the sweet spot of my collecting heyday. 3. A Frank Miller Wolverine mini-series example would be nice; although likely also priced out of this market. 4. A Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns page, no doubt too rich for my blood as well. 5. Any and all pages from the Spider-Man Vs. Wolverine 1987 one-shot. |
