I like the intellectual approach to these visual gags!  It shows that the animators were not dumbing it down.

Just from this sheet of images, you can tell what kind of story is being told as you can see desperation in trying to escape her captor and be free from bondage.

We get both sides of the scene in this page.  From the director's side and the actors' side, both sets have to be well thought out by Olortegui as they are stuffed with their own level of realism and make believe. 

Awesome page!  Can't get enough Reckless, and Anna is such an engaging character.  Interesting textures and shadows in this page to go with the action and intense expressions

This team knows how to make good drama.  They show that it's a real struggle for things the audience takes for granted in other books.  

With how much time we collectors hoard, they'll be digging through my fireworks stash for days!

It's probably the most common of their long body vans in the late 70's.  The gas guzzlers during the oil crisis didn't have that long of a life.  The more common ones where the cheaper ones with less windows.  Known as kidnapper style vans or vans they sold under the table stuff out of.  I think Bill Cox lived in one of these for a while.

Wonderful choice!  Love every page of Reckless, but it's great to have one the artist favors and that van is so iconic.  Love the symmetry of the page and Brubaker and Phillips achieve just the right mood for the story, as always

1977 Dodge B 200

It has a gothy vibe from the Vertigo books of the 90's.  A little dark and mysterious with a punk attitude!

Lemire brings that indie cred to Black Hammer like it's the golden age with a fresh open universe full of possibilities!    

The pencils are great and the thicker lines give off a softer look for the inks to flow over them smoothly.

Wow! What cool scene! Love the multiple images of Batman leaping! Congrats!

Fun single page self contained origin storytelling like they used to do back in the golden age and kids had to accept it!  Lou's moustashe was already looking like the tentacles.

Show 'em if you got 'em.  Paul Neary's Cap art is cool and even made D-Man an A-lister if only for his run.

Fantastic cover!  It fits so well with the themes of the series to depict one of the major events of the 20th century that began the mistrust, the rumors, and the conspiracies!

Another nice one!  By now you don't see the color codes on the guides anymore and the shading within the same color become more complex.

The lighting gives this so much detail of the clothing that ties into the negative space within the shadow.  By contrast the gun flash is kept very simple and basic to bring focus back towards the center,   

Pretty sure you're right about that.  The interiors were amazing, with every magazine cover at the newsstand detailed etc., but I think it was all digital.  This is a great piece from the series in any case!

Walker almost breaks character in this page because of Mary, but he stays on mission to lure the Watchdogs out still.  The facial expressions he goes through is Morgan and Hunt at their 80's best!  

Them losers have to go torch a library before the two old lady librarians get wind and put up a fight.

LOVE this page. And it was coloured beautifully. In black and white, it's still incredible. Congrats.

You've got a gorgeous splash page here! Sean's work is just so beautiful and this evokes that period and the classic roadside motels of the West Coast.

Imaginatively surreal with images that could be real or not.

The wash work is really good from the vantage point of the city rooftops.  Awesome layout to fully take advantage of the showdown scene with width and depth.

Pure Alex Nino is very cool!  He did this story around age 70 and hasn't lost a step in storytelling and even refined his style.  It looks like each panel has it's own contained design.

I love these early large art pages Charlie drew on, and often quite detailed like this!

And a good thing, too.  Riding those things bareback can be a bit of a safety hazard.

That... is a STUNNING spread, Jay.  Page 6 is the immediate eye candy grab here, with its fantastic capture (and sublime inking) of this delicious dollop of fantastic Mark Millar insanity ("Yeah, let's have the prisoners dispatched by two folks riding in on a T-Rex..."), but doggone if page seven isn't even more impressive...  Just look at the storytelling chops on display, and how the viewer's eye effortlessly slides down the page: King Morax's shoulder subtly overlays panel one, and his staff cuts all the way through panel three, not only funneling the reader's eye to land squarely upon the arrival of Queen Emporia and her retinue but also to "box her in" thematically.  The T-Rex tail is floated over panel three, panel four is floated over the tail, and Emporia's image in panel four then breaks out of THOSE borders, leading all eyes to the lovely, self-contained panel of Dane and Emporia together (the only panel on this gorgeous spread that is "safe", and retains the integrity of its borders); the very first time we as readers see them together like that.  Absolutely marvelous, Jay!  Beautiful score!

Yes, he hand-filled the blacks in just the first few pages on the first Reckless hardcover, but I believe he did so for all of the pages in the next two books (We'll see about the next one!).  I think the finished gutters were done in postproduction for all the Reckless books, but it's great to be able to get full size, fully inked, lettered pages from Brubaker and Phillips on this outstanding series.  There are some fully inked, full size, lettered pages from a couple of the later Criminal books, as well.

Outstanding page showcasing the street view and interior of the theater!  Love this series --- as good as Criminal for my taste!

The world building and set design is the star of this page!  It has as much work put into it as any page with character because the theater itself was a character. 

Great page!  The environments in this story are right on the money, with the theater being the ideal base of operations, as you say.  Plus, it's telling that Ethan would spend hours cleaning up recurring graffiti on the place given that he spends so little time with people or working any real job.

I thought the marquee was going to be Risky Business.  I guess I should have called Moviefone beforehand.  Nice shadows on his daily routine.

This was a sweet moment in the story!
