Gorgeous daily! I can almost hear "Telstar" playing in the background.
This is an excellent find.A Matt Baker COVER! From one of my favorite titles that he worked on.
This page, as well as the whole issue (147) is one of my favorite in the entire Cockrum/Rubinstein run!
I've always loved wrighton's "Toccata and Fugue" This is a fantastic piece. How 'bout including a "detail" of it. Congrats!
A truly gorgeous and inspirational piece. I can't believe Canavarel didn't use this! So many artists owe their careers to Frazetta, the master.
I just finished "reading" this Tarzan story from these ruffs. Didn't need the writing. Kubert is a master cinematic storyteller. Thanx for sharing.
Great inking job, Dave. Gene Colan is one of the toughest pencillers to embellish correctly. And you did it! Excellent problem solving , especially with that left thigh. Great washes, too.
This piece really KICKS ASS, Craig! I'd love to see you do a "Special" featuring this particular herald.
WOW!! Peak Wrightson doing what he born to do...the FRANKENSTEIN Monster. In EVERY panel too! Congrats, Rob, on a great pick up!
Arthur Adams drew this around the time he finished up his "Longshot" mini-series. It was clearly pencilled for someone else to ink. In this case, Terry Austin.
WOWWW!!!!!!!!! This is one of the BEST pieces I have ever seen posted on CAF. Classic RAYMOND during my favorite period of his work. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Beautiful homage, Bob. You've alway's been one of my favorite artists in comics, albeit very underrated.
Fantastic page, Jon! I love your Lou Fine gallery. Congrats on such a woderful collection!
This piece shows a thorough thought process. Thanx for sharing, Mike!
Nice, ballsy approach you got there, Cory. Your lack of timidiy in re-creating this panel is impressive.
I can see Raymond's influence in Frazetta's work also, though I've never heard Frazetta sight him as so. He alway's points out Foster as his big inspiration. Btw, Alex Raymond was 26 when he did this page...the same age Frazetta was when he did "UNTAMED LOVE" and the famous rejected "BUCK ROGERS" cover.
Thanx for the comments, fellas! To check out more Golden Age goodies, take a gander at my CAF galleries.
This is a great example of what Alex Raymond was doing when he was only twenty five years old! Keep in mind that he was hired to do this strip in the style of MATT CLARKE, who turned down the assignment. I personally like what Raymond was doing on X-9 better than the work he was doing on FLASH GORDON during most of 1934. PLEASE post a better scan of this piece!
So thats where that piece wound up. Excellent find!!
Tat is certainly one"Wall of Fame" you got there 'pal. Congrats!!!
Friggin' GORGEOUS page, man!!! With original Jungle Jim topper, too! Raymond looks like he was fully entered into his "drang and sturm" period here.
Absolutely GORGEOUS!! Peak Wrightson during his "Booth" period.
