A-mazing Likeness! What a great pick-up! Joe Jusko is so darn talented!
This page is even more striking in person! And I love how no word balloons are needed to convey depth of emotion. Artistically and more - an outstanding page! Congratulations Gene!
As soon as I saw the image I knew it was Adam Cline - he's very distinctive which makes his art different and unique. Congrats
I am stunned! Such a crown jewel! I loved loved loved this cover when it came out. And what a stupendous cover it is for a number of reasons, including as you say historical significance. Huge Congratulations!
Nice pick-up Bill! Love the Defenders--great stuff!
Epic Cover! Literally and Figuratively! Just WOW! Huge Congratulations!
Was just re-reading this story the other day. Very nice page and a first appearance too! Nice pick up.
Loved this issue! Great art and cool storyline. Congratulations! Now I'm regretting not bidding lol. By the way, it's John Buscema pencils not Sal channeling John.
Nice! An issue (and art team) that doesn't get as much love as it/they deserves!
Nice! The quest continues! Continued Good Luck!
I meant also to say that the pages check so many collecting boxes - from early Avengers, Wonder Man first appearance, historical issue, great story and signature early Heck art etc.
Simply incredible that you were able to over time acquire these 4 great pages! Congratulations on such a feat!
All the Avengers plus Loki! What a great splash! And the aftermath of Avengers/Defenders!
Gene!~ Very happy for you my friend on multiple levels! Congratulations! To acquire such a favorite piece must make you feel supremely satisfied (and perhaps a bit giddy in quiet moments). You know, I've been trying to collect my thoughts on this ever since you posted it on you CAFand although I won't fuilly succeed, I'll try to leave a comment worthy of it. It's indeed a fantastic and memorable splash that hits a strong nostalgic chord - classic Claremont/Byrne/Austin X-Men- wow! And it's a beautiofully drawn striking image to be sure (and that much more striking in person) - with, I agree with you, not a single out-of-place, exaggerated or unnecessary component, whether figure, background or word balloon. Looking up the definition of "sublime" yields concepts like "high in excellence", "exalted", "elevated", "lofty" and "quality of genius in great literary works which irresistibly delights, inspires, and overwhelms" - Damn. Sublime indeed!
Excellent Ultimates Cover! Congrats!
Nice! Congrats on acquiring another piece from an historic storyline!
Beautiful perfectly inked splash! Congratulations for the acquisition!
Besides great visuals and an historic storyline, there are such great lines of dialogue - starting with the very first two lines by Namor and Cap's response including "You're not the foe . . ." - 70s Gold! Congrats on the pick-up!
What a horrible page! And no real action / just boring talky talky. Snoozefedt. I mean who would even want a page with so many flaws and issues-- too many to count. There's not even any of the Big Three! Hard pass! 🤪
A remarkable and super memorable page. Congratulations on your good fortune and judgment to acquire this!
Another posting I somehow missed. These issues were just great, even the non-battle pages--love the art and love the stories.
There's so much I'd like to like to say that I wish I had the skill to write this with the same eloquence as my thoughts and feelings. First of all, heartfelt congratulations again my friend on acquiring this piece. It's clearly so gratifying for you (and us when we hear these stories) when one is rewarded by obtaining a highly desired and sought after piece of art (even if the "cost" was very high). And thank you for publicly sharing. Secondly, the art itself is so impactful. Yes there is a lot of great art but there are a few categories and examples of art that by either subject, context or other reason transcend personal (or limited group) nostalgia and importance. While most of us were too young to see the original films in the theater, the abundance of TV broadcasts for years meant that for many, incl. me, Sean Connery was and always will be the quintessential Bond (not that I didn't enjoy many of the other Bond movies). And Bond, with Connery providing the foundational characterization, is of course a cultural icon and touchpoint. Beyond that significance, the painting is such a great and beautiful representation. The scene, the layout, the forced perspective, the colors, and the absolute dead-on photorealistic depiction of Bond/Connery is literally perfection. It truly is an amazing piece, an epic acquisition. And it's found a long term home of someone who can deeply appreciate it. Enjoy and well done sir! ( and did I hear something about some secret Cabal???)
What a great page - great art & great dialogue. And love the inks by Sinnott. Few Avengers pages/issues did the Grim Reaper justice as a super villain but this page does. Too bad Buckler didn't finish this storyline.
Nice! I especially love that first panel. Congrats on picking up these gems.
Oops spoke too soon- it is missing three word balloons - but that certainly doesn't detract from it being a great page!
Great, nostalgic page! Congrats! And doubly nice that it has all its word balloons.
Congrats! A great page from the legendary Byrne 3 issue Avengers epic #164-#166! Stupendous art, story and dialogue. I'm dizzy with envy, especially since it's a page highlighting Iron Man!
Wow and wow! Great find and pick-up! Love the artistic figure movement!
Great Vol 3 Perez cover! Really conveys Count Nefaria's power. Congrats!
Stupendous Perez second run cover. I always liked Perez' take on the Grim Reaper and this is another great example, plus what great Avenger character inclusion. Enjoy!
What an amazing and nostalgic cover! Gorgeous, one of Cockrum's best! And the Sentinels as well! The expletives could go in and on. Huge congratulations!
Not only such a cool page but such a great art page as well - and to top it off a first appearance. Great stuff. Not every artist could draw a good Modok but here Kirby dies a masterful job--such ugliness combined with menace and cool tech! Just perfect. Congrats.
