Owned this work some time ago, nice to see a bit of backstory on it.
Great all around example from layout, execution to author
Top tier stricking example.
Thought this was a strong example when Stephen showed it to me in person, Enjoyable pick-up
Great example Brian, and on the larger sized for his originals.About 25 years ago I was in an old bookstore here in Manhattan (Chelsea) they had about 6 Charles Addams originals, the asking was something like 1000 each, this one was the best of the group and the one I purchased for my private collection. I owned it for a good 15 years and only let it go to help me get the skiing work currently in my CAF.
Spectacular and Fantastic early Doc cover
These covers Fred's doing for the Toxic Avenger are great, and this one is a killer example. In the comic world Harper is underrated as he spent most years between his early Marvel stuff wisely doing gallery shows across the USA
congratulations on such a nice example, love the razor technique he did on the zipatone. Got to meet Rafel a couple of years ago, talked to him about his Strange Tales II cover I got from him, very grounded and pleasant person with a great outlook on his creations.
Nice to see you finally post this killer example, and even better to get all the process details public on the painted Z&Z works.
But not telling your wife what you paid? I’d never tell my wife what I paid, I mean, I’d never not tell my wife how much I really paid, I mean…… Oh whatever, totally guilty.
That makes sense then, I do think I got it from Weiss, and after some time sold it thru IH, where I also worked for over a decade as curator and show manager.
It's a great pice and well done.
Wow! have not seen this one for many years, used to own it but did not know the artist, think I got it from a Weiss auction back when he did a catalog, but not 100%
Sharp example Glynn, Best one of the group.
Nice to see it posted, and glad you enjoy it.
One of his best examples IMHO
Great example and nice fit to your collection.
We'll you said you wanted "A" Raboy cover but ended up with "THE" Raboy cover.
Cool early cover, when this first came up my first thought was that the Freak’s head must be under that stat, might be an interesting peek with a bright light.
Huge congratulations on a stunning major example.
Nice to see this story again. It was reprinted in EWOFT #6, but originally printed in the 1977 issue of Savage Sword of Conan #29. these are about 8x10" and the ink and wash was done on a 2-up page size original.
Looks like it ended up in the perfect collection.
A mini masterpiece.
Great example Rick.
The Michael it's signed to is Michael Thibodeaux.
I remember being very tempted by it when Michael was offering it at San Diego many years ago. Also a good bit more on the asking that what you got it for.
Fun cover, I've not seen it since I sold it for Frank, it was unusual for Frank to do a cover at this size.
Stellar example. Congratulations Gene.
WOW!
What a fantastic find Michael.
And such a great example.
Thanks for coming out to the GraphFix Con.
At 77 Lopez is still knocking out some killer examples.
Nice stand alone Lann/Thorne example, good to get in there early. I don't think any other pages from Lann sold before a European collector took all the rest in one group.
Very fitting page for you Dave. I remember my dad telling me how he was helping do some security at a party in Soho and met John Belushi, he was a bit wild but an incredible talent.
This should be a lesson to all that Sake and Guyanese rum do not mix. I feel for you and hate to see a OAX neighbor get burned like this, I’d give you a great Jughead story in trade to get you out of this mess. But seriously, this is such a classic page, yeah that 3rd panel is worth the price of admission, but also love that lounging on a tree Wolverine in the top panel. Fun Stuff!
Congratulations Gene! Rare, iconic, and a lovely painting.
As I recall Frank only did one painted recreation of Red Sonja #10.
This is actually done in Krylon and Sharpie.
Supercool Silverage Institution Worthy Goodness
This was the last, and one of the best, of the 14 Red Sonja covers I sold for Frank, who was one of the nicest artists I've ever met and that cannot be disputed.
Darkseid breakin in across from the local comic shop! NIce to see it found the right home.
Nice to see that one again, when I had my pick of the HB books I got this and the published inks to this splash, which to me wore the best of the books.
Frank did a handfull of Sonja pin-ups back in the day but this was the very best of the group. Hard one to part with.
As prolific as Cooper was there is so little of his originals around, let alone a great example.
