When I found this page, I was starting to give up hope of finding an Excalibur page with a nice Phoenix panel. That final panel hooked me. And the many iterations of Psylock didn't hurt either. :)

When I hold it in my hands it almost feels 3D. The layers. The knife, in front of the woman, in front of Big Daddy, then the crows. I know all pieces are "better in person"..... but this one takes it to a new level for me.
Absolutely loved the "Devil on vacation" interludes. My jaw dropped when I watched your interview with Bill Cox.
Now that you mention it, it wouldnt be too far of a stretch to envision a face in that dark crosshatching, and a couple manicled wrists. (Adding a detail pic in "additional photos")
NICE!! I really wanna add one of these cover recreations to my collection.
Congrats on this milestone.
20,000 comments, and all thought out and insightful. You're a machine. 😀
Was lucky to find this one on eBay recently. It's not dated, but I agree that it appears to be an older sketch, which is exactly what I was looking for. :)
Thanks for the assessment Marcus. When I snagged one of Aaron's commission slots I wasn't sure what I wanted him to draw. After some thought, I felt that YuBaBa would be a perfect fit. As you can see, he FAR exceeded any expectations I had. Couldn't be happier.
I am the original owner of this art.
I purchased It directly from Alan, via one of
his random art drops. He’d send an email out to everyone on his mailing list, saying a couple days later at, a specific time, he’d have art for sale on his website.
It was all finished pencil sketches like this one, and they all got snapped up instantly. No published pages. All just finished pencils.
Side note. It was the most expertly packaged piece of art I’ve ever received. I felt like I was opening a parcel from a museum. Lol
Fell in love with this DPS, the moment I saw it in the early 2000’s. Was just talking to a previous owner of it, and shocked to find out let it go.
Congrats on a beautiful piece.
GREAT piece. I'm still hunting for something this nice to add to my collection.
I just looked through your gallery. Very Nice!! I didn't see the one with Brightwing that you were referring to though.
I believe this is my favorite Dave Stevens piece on Comic Art Fans. Everything you have in your collection is incredible, but this is just stupendous.
Nice sketch and nice summary of the situation. I was the first peoson in line and the recipiant on the Tarzan "sketch". I started the line about 3 hours before Frank was posted to be at the booth. I was starting to feel bad for everyone else in line about 30 min. into the session when he was still working on my peice and when he was done I think I dropped 3 or 4 times the donation ACTOR was requesting in the bucket. Every year I try to donate to ACTOR in some way, I'm just happy some of these great artists donate their time also.
