I think there's a requirement in the Negative Zone that a villain must take a class in over dramatic acting before they are allowed to invade our universe. Blastaar no doubt got an A+! Another fabulous 1970s Marvel page in your collection!
I'm confident that restoration would cost significantly more than the page itself is worth, so I don't have any plans to restore it.
I can't say that I'm familiar with Dylan Macko's work, but seeing what he did here, I wouldn't mind seeing more!
I've long thought that Medina is a very underrated talent. His work is strikingly beautiful here.
I worked in a comic book store when this series came out, and I spent many, many hours opening cases of cards to put together complete sets for the store to sell. It could have been tedious work after a while, but the art was so good that I never got bored. It's great to see an original like this as it takes me back to that great time.
That'd be a great marketing tie-in for the upcoming movie!
When Aerosmith appeared in an issue of "Shadowman" in the original Valiant series, many hoped it would be a stepping stone to the band appearing in a Marvel book alongside Cap, Namor, Nick Fury, Iron Man, Thunderbolt Ross and Hank Pym's chemistry set, but it didn't happen. Your post is the closest that we will get to that dream.
I really enjoyed Coker's artwork when it appeared back in the day. I would have loved to have seen him do a nice long run on a Marvel title, but instead we had to make do with the occasional issues like this one. A great addition to your collection!
There's not enough Steve Rude art in the world, so congrats on getting such a cool example!
Superman should have started wearing the Eradicator's sunglasses after returning from the dead. That would have been a way cooler look than the mullet.
Looks like Bolland was an expert at cover design right from the start. An awesome pickup!
Easily one of the best depictions of Ant-Man that I've seen.
Nicely captures the horror aspect of the Demon Bear story. Between this and what Empath did to them, Tom and Sharon did not have it easy (and then poor Sharon got knocked off completely a few years later).
Koblish put so much into this page with all of the tiny tech details throughout. I recall being disappointed with the revelation that Douglock wasn't Doug Ramsey, but then Doug came back eventually since no Marvel characters stay dead forever.
Not to sound cliche, but this would work wonderfully as a cover.
Nicely done space battle scene. The angles of the ships to one another and the spacing between them looks to be well thought out by the artist.
Beautiful work by E! The design and detail are stunning!
Knowing Cyclops, he's trying to figure out how to get a date from Chun-Li out of this.
Far better than any Thundercats comic I ever saw in the 1980s.
If I were a member of a death cult or assassins' guild in 1979 who wasn't invited to this meeting, it would have driven me into a depression spiral. Everyone who was anyone got an invite to this gathering of treachery.
A beautifully regal Storm that could intimidate any foe. Outstanding work by Stevens.
Now there's a Batman that would strike fear into the hearts of criminals!
Cool cover! I haven't read the book yet, but I hope that they incorporate Martian Manhunter's longstanding Oreo addiction.
Rictor is such an immature jerk. That's why he's not a founding member of X-Force.
This is a Cap that looks like he'll knock your head off just for making eye contact with him on the street.
Sad Cap perfectly encapsulates the mood of so many in the USA these days. A Cap for our times.
Grell conveys the drama beautifully through the characters' facial expressions.
I did offer to send it back to the seller when it arrived, but when he saw the pictures he said to just keep it.
I am confident that the ultimate responsibility for the damage belongs to the USPS. From what I can piece together, the package somehow fell out of its designated shipping container in transit from the Metro NY Distribution Center to my local post office - the package was scanned as being in the container when it left the Distribution Center but the post office claimed the package was not in the container when it arrived at the post office. The post office then said that the USPS had no idea what happened to the package and they declared it officially lost. Around a month later it shows up in my mailbox with a sticker on it from the USPS saying they regret the damage and hope it did not inconvenience me. The package was torn in multiple places and had been bent every which way. How that happened is a mystery for which I will not likely receive an answer..
No joke - I had ABBA playing when I posted this art!
Thanks! Most of the artists who I have spoken to about doing a Disco Dazzler commission in the past seem genuinely excited to draw her - I think the roller skates and the music performance angle are subjects they do not get to draw too often, so the novelty of it leads to some great results.
I like to think that if Karen Carpenter had lived, the Carpenters would have one day completed a Spider-Man themed concept album.
I was also buying this as a monthly title when it was new, and I very much enjoyed this period of the book. Johnson could always be counted on for solid work back in the day.
Congratulations on returning this piece back home. I try to block a piece of art out of my mind the minute I sell it, but I'll admit there is a small handful of pieces I'd like to get back one day. I'm glad you were able to make it a reality for yourself!
I pity anyone wearing a blue hat who came across the Hulk later that same day.
I discovered the Liberty Legion via quarter bins as a kid and thought they were a great looking team. My disappointment was that their total number of appearances was in the single digits. Great work by Robbins here with the action practically exploding off the page.
1990s Bryan Hitch is still my favorite Hitch. Cool action shot of the world's second favorite Summers brother.
Mico really captures that 1990s Marvel feel here. This isn't a style I'm used to seeing him use, but I'd be happy to see more of it.
The layout and detail here are amazing. Artwork like this is why I love comic books.
I was a big fan of this series back when it was coming out monthly - easily one of Peter David's best runs. A great looking page from an underrated series.
Cockrum was still at the top of his game here. Great action shot of one of Dave's most enduring character creations.
