Very nice! Great addition to your Tolkien collection, Chris!
Amazing piece, Chris! Always enjoy seeing Liz’s Tolkien art.
I agree- Its amazing how many different figures and concepts they came up with for this Lord of the Rings line!
Thank you, Chris! I agree- this was from an exciting time to be a Tolkien fan!
Thank you, Chris! I had been looking for a while as well when this one came up. It's one of my favorite Hague pieces from The Hobbit so I jumped right away when I saw it. I wish the photos did it justice- I will have to upload some better ones soon!
Yes- a new edition just released this month! I plan on picking up a copy when I get a chance.
Thank you- one of my favorite Hobbit pages in my collection!
You always find the coolest Tolkien stuff, Chris! Congrats on another epic piece!
Incredible addition to your Tolkien collection!! Congrats, Chris!
Thank you! One of my favorite Tolkien related pieces!
Another amazing Tolkien piece, Chris! The small details and color choices are wonderful.
Beatiful piece! love the color palette- use of purple is great!
Thank you! You expressed my feelings towards this piece perfectly- down to the sleeping Bilbo!
Thank you! Ive alway been fond of the more quiet moments in Tolkien's writting- and agree that Wenzel's skill at making that come alive is truly masterful.
I completly agree, James!
Ive always thought Wenzel did an amazing job with the more quiet moments. Although Tolkien's work is a often remembered for its epic qualities I've always been fond of the simple moments between characters.
I've always dreamed of a Wenzel "Lord of the Rings" as well!
What a cool piece- congrats!
Beautiful page- congrats!! Reading your caption really resonated with me. This book was my big introduction to Tolkien's world and comics as well. I agree it's incredibly surreal to own a piece from this book. Of all the Tolkien pieces in my collection my pieces from Wenzel's "Hobbit" have the most sentimental value.
Congrats again on the epic piece!
Small world! Her Middle Earth stuff is fun (although most is depicting events or characters invented outside of Tolkien's writing). I've always loved her ink work and attention to detail.
That's cool that you were discussing art restoration with her as well!
I would highly recommend it- Wenzel's work is even more beautiful in person. I think your daughter will love it as well when she is old enough. Growing up in the 90s Wenzel's Hobbit was my first introduction to Tolkien's work and it made me fall in love with Middle Earth. I think it's the perfect introduction to Tolkien's world for children who are too young to read his actual writings and may be afraid of the animated films.
Congrats, Steve! What a truly epic piece of art and Tolkien history!
Detail on this piece is amazing!
Another beautiful Bakshi piece, Chris!
Without a doubt, Marcus! The artwork in these games is incredibly transportive. I will have to add other photos from this game soon.
What an incredible landscape painting! One of my favorite landscapes I've seen for a CCG
Beautiful! The rendering of the reflections on the surface of the rings is incredibly masterful. Congrats!
Thank you, Eric! That's a beautiful way to describe Wenzel's work- I couldn't agree more. Happy to hear you enjoyed studying the page- there is a lot of little detail to take in. I've always loved how this page in particular tells a whole little story in itself.
Love the classic ICE stuff- especially if it's Tolkien related!
Thank you, Chris!
Gordeev is one of my favorites. I've tried to find more from this series but have been unable to so far. Hoping to find another one day!
No thanks needed! I can only imagine how incredible this piece looks in person. I'll never forget Greg Hildebrandt showing me a few of the original Tolkien calendar paintings and being blown away by how magnificent they looked off the printed page. Such vibrant colors and masterful techniques!
Always great talking to another Tolkien fan and collector!
I plan on uploading some more of the collection on here this weekend- hope you enjoy!
Thank you, David! I completely agree. Although it is a rough sketch (even more so than a lot of the Tolkien art in this album) I have always found a lot of beauty in it. In person it reminds me of standing in front of an old masters sketch.
thanks for your comment- more Lord of the Rongs and Tolkien art coming this weekend!
Beautiful piece!! This has always been one of my favorite Brothers Hildebrandt Tolkien pieces not featured in one of the original calendars. Congrats!
