The unique look of this issue sets it apart from this periods other art even without the first appearance of the Black Knight. Such a cool page!
Love this cover Steve! So much great stuff going on this issue and on this cover. Great pickup!
Wow! Beautiful page from an Amazing talent and a cool storyline. Huge congrats!
This is a fantastic recreation of a super cool issue and I am glad to be able to have it land in your amazing collection and with the biggest Big John collector I know! Congrats on a great piece!
Who is the current owner of this piece?
Great page Brian! The pages from this period in the 50's are just beautiful and this storyline is one of the best ever. Huge congrats!
That's my first thought everytime I see pages from this story...my 12 year brain saying...what's a zuvembie? I was also confused for a long time...and still question...who was fronting the black talon...Grim Reaper? ...and who the "reaching hand" was and the reanimating of the Black Knight...and I guess it was always Ultron? Gerry Conway had something going but maybe Shooter had other plans. Anyway...LOVE it!
Oh man I loved this issue when i finally found a back issue of it after being teased by some of my first Avengers comics issues 150-151 and the dreaded doom deadline reprints of it. I had the splash...and a few other pages...for many years and miss it terribly! Great page Andy!
"Steve Rude channeling both Kirby and Steranko here'' that just about sums it up...along with very cool layouts and imagery which makes your eyes dart about taking it all in. Love it Rob!
Great page from one of the first back issues I was able to trade for in the neighborhood when I started collecting avengers comics. I had no idea who the Beast was until later!
I love how this storyline features the Darkhold and how it continued into the MCU with Agents of Shield and then the Multiverse of madness stories. Cool stuff. Great page Steve!
This is simply beautiful in so many ways. Love it and huge congrats.
Great page from a great story from my golden age of comics! Love it!
This is beautiful Carl huge congrats on acquiring this amazing piece!
Fantastic early Ironman page. The combo of Ditko and Heck worked amazingly well. Beautiful!
Great page from an incredible story. The third panel looks like Sal trying to mimic Big John's style just a bit. Love it!
Thanks Lee, I know we share a love of both this time period and this story line in particular!
As I began to collect back issues in the 1970s I found these cool science fiction stories and loved them!
Huge congrats on the story pickup. The inks by these two make the Don Heck art shine! My money is still on Iron Man...
Agreed the stars aligned for you in purchasing this beautiful cover. It is 100% my favorite cover of the second run Perez greatness as the pictured love triangle and drama was one of my favorite elements of both the 1970s run and the 1990s run. Harkens back to Avengers #158 and my golden age of Marvel greatness. Huge congrats.
Spectacular page Steve. The stories from this timeframe shaped by lifelong love of the avengers. Congrats!
I love this one for sure and Scott is a real talent! Big congrats on the pickup!
Wow what a surprise! This is a page that is burned into my brain from my youth but I have never seen it before. Thanks for sharing!
These pages from issue #9 are awesome Andy. Wonderman is also a favorite of mine along with his synthetic brother of course! Thanks for sharing.
Very early Avengers by Kirby...always beautiful. Inclusion of the teen brigade as an integral part of the story...so nostalgic. Back in the day of writers and artists who were tough Guys themselves. Love it!
Great page from one of the best stories of the Avengers Golden age. So memorable and so beautiful. Huge congrats Steve!
Absolutely beautiful splash page from my golden years reading the Avengers. Huge congrats Steve on a spectacular end page splash by Byrne!
So amazingly cool Kirk! I love this one and keep coming back to it!
Beautiful painting of Smaug by one of my favorite artists! Huge congrats!
As most people agree this 2 issue story was an absolute high point of my childhood comics reading timeline. As an Avengers guy seeing them drawn by Starlin blew me away...and finding those Captain Marvel back issues later was the chefs kiss! I have had the luck and pleasure to own 4 pages from this saga over the years and they are amazing up close. Huge congrats bud on another spectacular page!
Great page from a great story Kirk! Nice pickup for sure.
Silver Age greatness by the tragically underrated Dashing Don Heck! Love it!
The Vision...Wanda...Pietro...Sal...! Plus the Kree-Skrull war...what more could an old school Avengers fan want? Great page Michael!
So incredibly great. I really Hank when he was used correctly and early Avengers showcase him well. Love this!
Cool splash by Dazzling Don which had nothing whatsoever to do with the assassin story...but I did love the Zodiac from issues 121 and 122. It was good I started with Avengers #147 so I didn't have to experience the dreaded doom deadline in real time as a kid! I loved the 1970s and I love this splash Steve!
Another great splash page by Sal who is one of my very favorite artists and who in many ways defined the marvel look on the books I collected as a kid. The whole Mantis/Swordsman/Vision/Wanda thing threw me a little bit at 12 years old...but I think I learned something along the way. Lol. Nice one Kirk!
Klein made Buscema so much better! Great action page!
As others have said before...as the years go by I appreciate Don Heck's Avengers more and more. I'm also a fan of Hank and Giantman so that's a bonus as well. Great page!
Great page Steve! Dave Wenzel doesn't get the credit he deserves for this brilliant issue...and of course Pablo Marcos just makes him and everyone he inks look even better. Loved this issue!
Such an incredibly great page! Thanks for sharing!
Great page with a fantastic top splash and an awesome throwback to avengers #9! Love it!
