Awesome. I love the use of negative space. Having Mariko unencumbered by text makes her all the more striking. It made me pull out the book. When paired with the next page (and reveal), the design choice is even better!  I agree - Smith's use of negative space in this issue, as well as his copious use of thin vertical panels, is really striking. It really makes for very visually interesting storytelling even with all the panels being just square or rectangular! |

Pretty interesting that the real version in the novel is Korean as the film version is played Japanese. Dynamite comics of today uses a new character as Oddjob with Korean ancestry. Oddjob is actually Korean in the film - Goldfinger quips to Bond that golf is not yet the national sport of Korea in reference to Oddjob's alleged lack of understanding of the game (as it turns out, he understands it very well and helps his boss cheat!) The actor who played him was of Japanese descent (by way of Hawaii), though. |
