One of the beauties of our times us that we have much more direct access to some of the creators of our favorite works than ever before, so commissions such as these can be obtained. If you're the type of collector whose idea of "value" goes beyond monetary worth to personal enjoyment, and you're okay with a commission instead of an original, the hobby can still be a blast. For me, having the occasional chance to interact with the artist is amazing. I had a great time chatting with Michael Netzer while he was working on a commission I'd ordered from him, for example!
