The first comic book I ever bought with my own money. This cover sold 10yo me on it. When CBG asked me to pick my 10 favorite covers, this was on it. Definitely one of the pieces of art I'd most want.
I have what I'm guessing is an earlier, rougher version of this. I also have an alternate rough sketch that's totally different. Jose is the best!
I would have thought Keaton was busy with the paratrooper training that eventually killed him at the time this would have been drawn, but there are some things about this in the design and drawing that look like Keaton had a hand in it, even if Swayze inked it. Paper doll is all Swayze. Both my Keaton and Swayze Flyin' Jenny Sundays were framed long before I had a scanner, but I'll try to get good photos and post them soon.
Hi! I own pages 1 and 3 of this story. I believe it's actually Mike Esposito inks, and few others have seconded that opinion. I sent Bob copies of these pages and asked him about them. He didn't know. At first he thought it had to be someone else drawing in his style, but eventually had to concede it must be him. He could remeber all sorts of things about his work and what was going on all the way back to the '20's, but he couldn't remember this story at all.
First saw this page when I was about 10 or 11 and found a coverless copy of the issue at a garage sale. Never forgot this scene. Exactly why it works I don't know, but I know a number of others who also never forgot this page. Also in this ish was Toth's Black Canary and bought with it was the Amazing Adventures with the Colan/Everett Black Widow shower scene. Quite the GGA eye-opener for a kid.
