That's a solid recreation. I was actually thinking of getting a recreation of this done myself. Nicely done.

It looks like Neal Adams had a hand in this page (as did many pages featuring Superman). The Superman figure in panel two has a lot of his work.

John Romita redrew a lot of Peter Parker and Spider-Man faces throughout this job. This page shows signs of his handiwork.

These pages all seem to be paved in white paint. Terry Austin background inks and likely some touching up by Neal Adams.

Erik, your work is stunning.  I've always loved it.  What was the rationale given for redrawing the face?

I have no idea. Maybe I drew the wrong character? Maybe it wasn't an exact enough match? I'm not sure.

Interesting to see. The Torch appears to have been redrawn from the waist up--I would assume by Romita because his gestures are very unlike Kane's work.

John Romita went to town on that page. All that white paint indicates that it was heavily reworked by Romita. The end result is stunning but I would absolutely credit Romita with co-inking this piece. I'd be really curious to shine a light through this to see what it had looked like prior.

I don't blame you Erik. Not even death...... it would go in the coffin with me. Kirby created so much great work at DC and him and Neal working together was mind bending.

I wouldn't get buried with art. So, I guess death would get me to part with this stuff.

I really enjoyed your Doom Patrol work, Erik. I was and still am a massive Steve Lightle fan and at first I found the stylistic differences to be jarring. But once I realized Lightle wasn't returning to the book anyway, I really got into your run. By the way, most people are aware of the fire that took your home and art, but did you ever attempt to sit down an make an inventory of the pages you lost, for your own benefit or simply for historic purposes? Any idea how many total pages were lost?

Fun early page, Ted, kudos on getting it. Love the Leader images.

I made an accounting at the time for insurance purposes. I don't recall everything. It's not easy to remember it all. I'm sure it was hundreds of pages ofmy own work as well as pages by Steve Ditko (Machine Man), Walter Simonson (X-Factor), Gil Kane (various, including hundreds of Star Hawks layouts), José Luis García-López (Teen Titans), George Pérez (Fantastic Four, Teen Titans), Ross Andru (Superman Vs. the Amazing Spider-Man), Todd McFarlan (Infinity Inc.), Rob Liefeld (Hawk and Dove) and others.

Thankfully, there were no Kirby pages in my possession yet.

Todd McFarlane drew layouts on 8½ x 11 typing paper, so his actual pencil never touched this 11 x 17 Bristol art board.

Todd's layouts were destroyed in the East Bay Firestorm in 1991 along with my house and numerous other originals. I don't knnow if Todd (or Marvel) has any copies of his layouts on file but I don't.

This entire issue was pencilled in eight days while I was working at DC on the Doom Patrol. A few months later I moved over to Marvel on my first regular asignment, the Punisher.

Hi Erik, i was attending as seller the Comicon Cartocomics in Milano Italy maybe 1996 or 1997 , my employe done the line on my behalf and come back with this sketch for me, then I done the line by myself and you signed to me the Wizard promo card of Savage Dragon, that it is still in my collection. It is sad to discover i been scam after 35/37 years lol (also because the guy is still a good friend of mine). I will move it into a new portfolio name "I been scammed)

thx for clarification :)

Sorry that happened to you. There are a number of scammers out there and, regretably, people get hurt as a result.
